The Derwent Tinted Charcoal pencils range combines the rich, expressive qualities of charcoal with a subtle hint of colour, all with the control and reduced mess of a pencil. Charcoal particles are mixed with clays and a small amount of colour pigment and encased in wood to produce a rich, smoothly textured pencil.

The Tinted Charcoal range maintains the 'blackness' of charcoal with a hint of colour; ideal for creating both drama and subtlety in the same drawing. A wide variety of effects can be created, from rich, deep tones to a translucent-like mist, plus they are naturally water-soluble.

The pencils retain the grainy texture associated with the charcoal medium with a smooth application to paper. They can be blended and smudged with fingers or a Derwent Paper Stump allowing for added tints and hues and softer, smoother tones to be created. Once a sketch is down on paper the pencils can be sharpened to a fine point to add the final detail. The rounded barrel is ideal for broad, sweeping strokes and the pencils are easy to sharpen and break resistant for long periods of use. The 24 tin contains the full 21 colours of the Tinted Charcoal range plus the standard light, medium and dark charcoal pencils, offering a tonal range from deep blacks to light greys. They can be used with the Derwent Compressed Charcoal and XL Charcoal blocks for a wider range of creative possibilities.
